Classroom Ideas

The lessons and activities below are designed for grades K-12. You can incorporate these educational materials into your lesson plans or designate a special day or week to focus on them. There are ideas to guide you through classroom discussions about healthy living and diabetes and suggestions for further exploration.

Grades 7-12 

What is Diabetes (Grades 7-12)
You will find information that will help you to teach students about diabetes, diabetes prevention, and how adopting healthier lifestyles can help prevent or delay diabetes and avoid its terrible complications.

Express Yourself (Grades 7-9 and Grades 10-12)
Students will learn how artistic expression can motivate others to adopt a healthy lifestyle. These lessons could be incorporated into Art, Health or Multi-media classes. 

Journal Your Way to Good Health (Grades 7-9 and Grades 10-12)
Students will explore their own food and exercise choices and learn how making healthier choices today can prevent diseases such as diabetes in the future. These lessons could be incorporated into Health, Writing, Psychology, Physical Education or Biology classes.

Stay Healthy, Be Informed (Grades 7-9 and Grades 10-12)
Students will observe how graphic design, advertising and marketing influence the food and exercise choices they make everyday. These lessons could be incorporated into Health, Business, Marketing/Communications, Journalism, Technology or Multi-media classes.

Take Action in Your Community (Grades 7-9 and Grades 10-12)
Students will research and analyze the health needs in their community and develop a plan to help those most at risk. These lessons could be incorporated into Health, Business, Communications, Civics or Government classes.
